Norfolk, Virginia native Maurice is back with a new EP titled “Education of Maurice.” His creative foundation dates back to 2000, when he began recording music professionally. His experience as an award-winning poet and short story writer laid the groundwork for his raw and unapologetic approach to songwriting. Musically, his influences read like a masterclass in dynamic performance and lyrical depth: Prince, Michael Jackson, Wu-Tang Clan, and Redman.
On his latest project, “Education of Maurice,” he finds perfect synergy with fellow PyrexDonRecords member/producer Profound79, who also shares ties with Gritty City Records. Soaked in golden-era grit, boom-bap vibes, and unfiltered bars, the project is a throwback in sound but forward-thinking in spirit.
The project features appearances from underground staples REKS and SNOTTY, adding further weight to the EP’s underground credibility. For newcomers to Maurice’s work, this project serves as an ideal entry point: brief, bold, and brimming with identity. A deluxe edition of “Education of Maurice” is slated for late September, with additional appearances from Obi-Wan and RahScrilla, with engineering handled by Zino of Authentic100 Studios. It promises to build upon the foundation of the original with even more depth and perspective.
