A decade later, his focus began to shift as he found himself orchestrating beat tapes for the Blast Decibel Crew. His unique sound pays homage to a long list of elite producers, ranging from DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Q-tip, Dilla, Dr. Dre, and El-P. The Samurai of wave slicing also draws inspiration from classic jazz and various vinyl gems.
His latest release, “12 Jewels (Knowledge),” is a carefully curated 15-track beat tape with a vintage 90s sound and a modern twist. The 12 Jewels of Islam are knowledge, wisdom, understanding, freedom, justice, equality, food, clothing, shelter, love, peace, and happiness. DJ Prominent plans on releasing a project representing each one specifically.
