Listening to music his entire life, he discovered an early infatuation with crafting beats and the art of sampling. He began rapping in High School and would create instrumentals by looping the end of songs on a tape deck. This method was later dubbed the “pause tape” technique.
Growing up in the church, Parry Illest initially found inspiration in gospel and jazz music. In 2014, he reconnected with the Christian Hip-Hop community and has been making music for the Kingdom ever since. Influenced by the east coast underground sounds of the 90s-2000s, Parry incorporates knocking drum patterns and chopped/looped samples to create timeless music meant to uplift the soul.
On his newest project, Parry Illest teams up with talented rapper Rocka MrEverything, on the 7-song collaborative album “40.” More than a four-decade milestone celebration, the title’s a reminder of the 40 days Jesus spent in the wilderness facing temptation.
